Camp Mythic helps the next generation understand how AI works and explore how to use it responsibly. Through hands-on activities, students learn to question its answers, recognize its limits, and consider its possibilities.
Today’s AI breakthroughs and decisions will shape the world these students grow up in. They deserve the understanding to help shape that future—and a voice in the choices being made now.
WHAT TO EXPECT ON CAMP DAY
On camp day, the learning takes the form of a fictional agency adventure. Students become new employees in Phoenix Division, the emerging technologies incubator within Mythic Systems. The agency is charged with understanding and protecting cryptids worldwide.
Their assignment: help the agency adopt new technology and advise on its responsible use, starting with AI. The story gives students a practical setting to investigate how AI learns, check its mistakes, and weigh opportunities alongside concerns about water use, jobs, and other impacts.
Your first agency assignment starts with a Sasquatch identification exercise. Explore how AI recognizes patterns, how its examples shape its answers, and why Phoenix Division should check the evidence before trusting a result.
In a role-play briefing, turn what you’ve learned into advice for a senator about AI’s risks and opportunities. Help explain how it works, where it could help, and what responsible use and sensible rules might involve.
We’ll step back from the story and reflect: what helped AI make sense, and where could responsible use fit into everyday life? Students’ feedback will help shape future Camp Mythic activities.
THE PILOT CAMP
For students in 6th–8th grade, from any community. Camp will take place in Great Falls; you do not need to live there to attend.
